An easy read! The story of a young woman's passage through difficult circumstances from child to woman, finally marrying her teenage boyfriend. "Veruska", written by a family member, details hardships under Nazi occupied Czechoslovakia in WWII, to post war takeover and life under the Communists. He father is an old school Doctor who's leadership style in the family keeps her constantly in doubt of a positive self image, but she is validated by a Grandmother. Veruska meets her future husband, escapes Communist Czechoslovakia into Austria, emigrates to Canada and is finally located by her Brazilian Diplomat boyfriend and moves on to Brazil where they marry. It has some breathtaking drama while they are escaping from the Secret Police and swimming the Danube into Austria. A delightful Human story.
